ABOUT OUR DIAMONDS

The 5C’s of Diamonds

At Finer, we assess diamonds through five Cs. The four Cs—colour, clarity, cut and carat—define quality. The fifth C, Considered, defines intent: thoughtful choices in design, materials and proportion, so each diamond feels balanced, lasting, and right for real life.

Cut

Where light comes to life

Cut describes how a diamond’s facets interact with light. More than any other factor, it shapes the diamond’s brilliance and overall beauty. A well-cut diamond reflects light with balance and clarity, creating natural sparkle - while a poor cut can appear dull, regardless of colour or clarity.

Colour

The natural tone of a diamond

Diamond colour is graded on a scale from D (colourless) to Z (light yellow), describing the presence of natural tint. Colour influences how a diamond appears in light, with higher grades offering a clearer, more neutral look and increased rarity.

Clarity

Purity within the stone

Clarity refers to the presence of natural inclusions and surface blemishes within a diamond. These characteristics form during its creation and are used to assess rarity. A diamond with no inclusions or blemishes is exceptionally rare and classified as flawless.

Carat

Weight, not size

Carat refers to a diamond’s weight, with one carat equal to 0.20 grams. Diamonds of the same carat weight can appear different in size depending on their cut and proportions. When considered alongside colour, clarity, and cut, carat plays a key role in overall value.

Considered

Designed for real life

Beyond the traditional four Cs, Considered reflects how a diamond is chosen, crafted, and experienced. It brings together certified quality, thoughtful proportions, and understated design—quiet luxury that feels assured rather than showy. Each piece is made to sit comfortably, wear effortlessly, and offer a sense of confidence that comes from knowing it was chosen well.
